DRDO develop ultra violet sanitizer tower - curiosity streamer

The  Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection tower that can be used for rapid and chemical-free disinfection of infection-prone areas. it is very useful at a time of pandemic infection like novel corona across the country.

A ministry of defence note released on May 4 says that the equipment named "UV blaster" is a UV-based area sanitizer designed and developed by Laser Science & Technology Centre (LASTEC), DRDO's Delhi-based premier laboratory. The Centre has developed it with the help of "New Age Instruments and Materials Private Limited, Gurugram,".

it is said that , "The equipment has six lamps each with 43 watts of UV-C power at 254 nm wavelength for 360-degree illumination. For a room of about 12 x 12 feet dimension, the disinfection time is about 10 minutes and 30 minutes for 400 square feet area by positioning the equipment at different places within the room."

Researchers believe that ultraviolet light can be broken up into four categories based on a specific range of wavelengths. The UV-C, a lower and more powerful wavelength of ultraviolet light than found in sunlight, is used for disinfection of surfaces, especially in hospital. ultra violet rays can destroy micro organism. it inactivate microorganisms by destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions. it is also used to sterilize surgery tools. 

The ministry's note says that the UV Blaster is useful for high-tech surfaces like electronic equipment, computers and other gadgets in laboratories and offices which are not suitable for disinfection with chemical methods. The product is also effective for areas with a large flow of people such as airports, shopping malls, metros, hotels, factories, offices, etc.

The UV blaster is a user-friendly device that can be used by remote operation through laptop/mobile phone using a Wi-Fi link. This sanitizer switches off on the accidental opening of a room or human intervention there by we can prevent it from exposure to human being. One more salient safety feature of the product is the key to arm operation.
